Info on Preventatives

• ​​​Nexgard Plus-  Nexgard Plus is a once-a-month chewable tablet for parasite control in dogs. It protects against heartworms, fleas, ticks, and some intestinal parasites. For use in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older who are at least 4 lbs and up.​                                                                      

• Simparica Trio  Simparica Trio is a once-a-month chewable tablet for parasite control in dogs. It protects against heartworms, fleas, ticks, and some intestinal parasites. For use in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older who are at least 2.8 lbs and up.​   

                                

• Nexgard- Nexgard is a very effective and easy-to-administer flavored chewable tablet that should be given every 4 weeks to prevent fleas and ticks.  Nexgard is soy-based so it can be given to dogs that may have allergies to certain protein flavorings. For use in dogs and puppies 8 weeks and older. ​

• Bravecto- Bravecto is a very effective and easy-to-administer flavored chewable tablet that should be given every 12 weeks to prevent flea and tick infestation.  For use in dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older. There also is a topical option of this product for cats.

• Seresto-  Seresto collars are a unique odorless collar that offer a continuous supply of two active ingredients that are released in low concentrations for effective 8 month protection and repellency against fleas, ticks and mosquitos. Using sustained release technology, these active ingredients are stored within the collar. For use on dogs, cats and puppies 7 weeks and older.  Collar size is based on weight.

• K-9 Advantix- Advantix is a topical product. It is applied to the back of your dog’s neck every 4 weeks to repel fleas, ticks and mosquitos.  It is important that your dog does not swim or bathe for 48 hours before or after application. For use on dogs and puppies 7 weeks and older.  Note this product is very toxic to cats so we do not recommend it in homes where cats are snuggling with dogs.

• Heartgard Plus- Heartgard is a once monthly, all beef chew that prevents heartworm disease and certain parasite infections. Other than Simparica Trio, it is the only heartworm prevention we recommend.
